The (MTO) requires that You:
  • must be 18 Years or older

  • Hold a valid Class 'G' Driver's License (Class G1 & G2 are not eligible)

  • Have a Physician fill out the MTO's Ontario medical form. These forms are available free of charge at our office or at the Drive Test Center on LaSalle.

  • Purchase a copy of the Ministry of Transportation's 'Truck Driver Manual' as well as the air brake manual and read it over in preparation for the Ministry's Written Tests for your beginner's license. This book can be purchased at The Drive Test center.

  • Take your completed Ontario medical form to your local Ministry of Transportation Office when you go to write your beginner's test. (The Ministry will keep this medical form so make sure you make copies of it before handing it in) You will be required to pay the MTO an $85.00 licensing fee prior to writing the test.

  • Obtain your current '3-Year Driver's Abstract' (driving record report). The fee is approximately $12. Driver's Abstracts and CVORs are available at the MTO Kiosk in your local mall, on-line from the MTO website, or at a Driver and Vehicle License Issuing Office. You can no longer obtain these documents at your Driver Examination Centre.

  • Obtain a criminal record search from your local Police, OPP or RCMP Office. Applicants from London, Ontario Canada who have a criminal record are required to go to the RCMP Commissionaire's Office for a "print search". You are required to provide 2 pieces of identification - one of which must be a photo ID - to initiate a search. Once search is returned, you will have to send documents away (with a money order) to receive your criminal record search.

  • Fees for a CPIC from your local police are around $25. If you have to do your search at the RCMP, the fees are closer to $45. If you have a criminal record, please visit Pardons Canada website. This is an excellent site to help you determine if you need to apply for a pardon, or a US Travel Waiver and how to do it. Applicants who have indictable convictions appearing on their criminal record search may be hindered from finding future employment.

  • You must be able to speak English proficiently.
